Prosenjit Pal
Cellular Quality Control and Organelle Dysfunction
Prosenjit is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Professor Dario Alessi’s lab at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit, University of Dundee. He completed his PhD at the S. N. Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences, University of Calcutta (India), under Professor Jharna Ray, where he identified novel Parkinson’s disease-linked mutations in the PINK1 gene and characterized their functional impact. As a Newton-Bhabha Fellow, he worked with Professor Miratul Muqit to study PINK1 heterozygous mutations, and contributed to association studies examining APOE and BDNF variants as modifier genes in PD. In the Alessi lab, he has revealed the importance of a lysosome membrane protein in LRRK2- and VPS35-related Parkinson’s disease and also identified a shared motif across proteins connecting them to lysosome biology.
