Full human gene replacement mouse models of Parkinson’s Disease ASAP

2026-Present

We are proposing to model the human genetics of PD as closely as possible in mice. To do this, we will generate “Gene Replacement” (GR) mouse lines in which the mouse version of each of the PD-related genes prioritized by the ASAP Initiative is precisely replaced with the full human version of that gene. These GR-PD mouse models will be validated and undergo basic characterizations. The mice will be freely distributed without restrictions to researchers in both academia and pharma, to serve as next generation tools for identifying critical pathogenic mechanisms in PD and for developing and preclinically testing therapeutic approaches.
